‘From human birth to death, our Bamboo finds one way or another to be useful to a common person. It is truly the unsung and the forgotten.’

In a lush, green forest, a shy, unassuming tree is presented with a reward by the forest queen.

This makes all the forest inhabitants curious . . .

India’s favourite storyteller brings to us the story of the humble bamboo that endures and selflessly gives.

A charming ode to our bountiful forests and trees, their resilience and the abundant gifts they bestow upon us, this gorgeous chapter book is the ideal introduction to the world of Sudha Murty.

Review :

How the Bamboo Got its Bounty by Sudha Murty is a wonderful story about the tress in our forests and how they essentially contribute to man and his life.

A shy Bamboo tree in a lush green forest was presented with a reward for being the most helpful tree through the the human life. Other tress of the forest were curios so as to know why the Bamboo was rewarded by their queen. Mrs Murty with her very indulging writing tell the readers the reasons for the same.

Gorgeous illustrations by Pari Satarkar accompany Sudha ma’am’s words and take the readers, young and old onto a ride through the jungle. This gorgeous book to me in my late 20s proved to be a reminder of the magic that books and words hold. Sudha ma’am with this book has touched my heart and taken me to my days of school wherein we learnt about the importance of tress and forest. Very few authors have been able to take me down the path of my early reading days and for that, I will always treasure this book.
